Welcome!
The Midwest Narcolepsy Support Group by its own definition is, very simply:
An organization whose mission is helping people with Narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia to better function in their everyday lives.
Our goals are simple but challenging. We strive to:
- Serve as a regional resource center.
- Educate families, the public, and health care professionals about narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia.
- Develop and maintain our support group.
- Encourage early diagnosis and effective treatment.
- Participate in scientific research.
- Advocate the rights of people with narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia.
- Advocate improved diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
- Serve patients’ needs.
Through this website, we hope to make our support network available to a larger audience. We know there are a lot of people who don't drive or don't have access to support services locally. At some point in time, we have all experienced a sense of "diagnosis induced isolation." It is for that reason that this website exists. We are all just people. Many of us have been diagnosed with Narcolepsy or a related sleep disorder. There are also many people in our group who provide support for people with Narcolepsy or a related sleep disorder. Our group includes medical professionals who are available to answer our medical concerns and as well as people who are involved in research. We have liaisons on our Steering committee to different Chicago area hospitals/hospital groups as well as a liaison who is a former trustee on the board of the national group: the Narcolepsy Network.
We meet once a month and our meeting schedule is posted on this website.
If you are interested in being a part of the Midwest Narcolepsy Support Group, you can subscribe to our website to receive our latest posts and check our meeting/event calendar. To be added to our mailing list, simply find the field in the right hand column of the site that looks like this:

Effective May 31, 2012, those people on our list began automatically receiving notifications of all new posts to our website via the "MailChimp". Each notification should include the option to either "unsubscribe" or "opt-out" of receiving future notices.
Thank you for your interest in our Support Group and our website--if you have any suggestions or comments, feel free to forward them to us at midwestnarcolepsy@gmail.com!
Remember - this website is monitored and maintained by volunteers some with narcolepsy and some not. While we try to check our email daily, sometimes we are overcome by other issues (sleepiness being one of them). We will try to respond in a timely fashion to all of your emails. Your patience is greatly appreciated when we can't.
